How accurate is the bodybugg system?
The armband has been shown to be over 90% accurate when determining calorie burn through the entire day. More specifically, a recent independent study tested the armband in real-life situations. Participants engaged in "free living" activities, including brisk walking, running, bicycling, sedentary activities, home activities, home repair, occupational activities, strength training, and ball games. Results showed:

Total Calories for free living activities: mean error <10%.
Total Minutes of exercise: mean error <5%.

Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine. July 2010. Berntsen et al.

I am seeing numbers that are less or more than I would think for a specific activity
The armband has been shown to be over 90% accurate when determining calorie burn through the entire day.

Short periods of time in the day may show calorie values you were not expecting. This may be because the calorie burn for that activity is different to what you were expecting, and the accuracy of the system varies with different activities. Over the whole day the average accuracy remains over 90%.

What is calorie balance, deficit and surplus?
Calorie balance is the difference between calories consumed and calories burned. Your caloric burn value is determined by the data from the armband, off-body estimates and any manual activities that have been logged. The caloric consumption value is determined by either the logged meals or body mass changes.

Calorie deficit = when you have burned more calories than you have consumed. Maintaining a calorie deficit over time is a key ingredient to weight loss.

Calorie surplus = when you have consumed more calories than you have burned. Maintaining a caloric surplus over time is a key ingredient to weight gain.

How do I Pair the armband with a Smartphone?
The armband is connected to a Smartphone with Bluetooth wireless technology using a procedure called "pairing". By following a few simple steps, your Armband can be paired with a Smartphone in a matter of minutes.

  1. Put the armband in pairing mode. Once you have set up the Armband according to the Getting Started card, you can pair it with a Smartphone. Hold the button on the armband down for 5 seconds. (This applies for initial pairing, to clear an existing pairing, or to pair with a new Smartphone.) To show pairing mode is active on the armband, the memory and battery status indicator lights will flash alternating in an amber color. The armband will remain in pairing mode for 2 minutes so that you can complete the next step with your Smartphone.
  2. Set your Smartphone to "discover" the armband. Follow your Smartphone's instruction guide. First make sure that Bluetooth wireless technology is activated on your Smartphone. Then set your phone to discover a device with Bluetooth wireless technology. This usually involves going to a "setup", "connect" or "Bluetooth" menu on your phone and selecting the option to "discover" or "add" a Bluetooth device.
  3. Your Smartphone will find the armband. Your Smartphone will find the armband under the name "XY's armband" where X is the first initial of the name registered to the armband and Y is the first initial of the last name. Your Smartphone then asks if you want to pair the armband. Accept by pressing "Yes" or "Ok" on the phone and confirm with the passkey or PIN=0000 (4 zeros). Your Smartphone will confirm when pairing is complete.
In case of unsuccessful pairing, go back to Step 1 and try again. In case the devices do not find each other the first time, you may need to try again.

Initial Connection and Application Installation. Once your armband is paired with your Smartphone, press the button on the armband to initiate the connection. Your Smartphone may automatically find the corresponding Application or you may need to search for the Application on the appropriate Application market/store. For the latest information on Bluetooth wireless technology application compatibility for Smartphones, please refer to our technical specifications

Do I have to wear the bodybugg (version 3) device 24 hours a day?
We recommend wearing the armband as much as possible during waking hours. The more you wear your bodybugg armband, the more accurate and effective you will be at maintaining your calorie deficit goal. During times of low activity (such as sleeping), the program will estimate your calorie burn at rest, based on your body parameters, so it is not 100% necessary to wear to sleep. We advise removing the device for at least an hour during the day to allow your skin to breathe and especially during bathing, showering and swimming.

Can I use the bodybugg (version 3) system online without the bodybugg armband?
Yes. Actually, the online program is the foundation of the bodybugg system. Based on your measurement changes, the system will determine your actual daily calorie deficit (or surplus) according to your one-week average. To help you stay on track without the bodybugg armband, there's an easy-to-use food logging function so you can keep track of calories consumed. There's also an exercise calculator with hundreds of activities to choose from to determine how many calories you've burned. Through the bodybugg online interface you can customize and print menus as well as view and print your exercise programs. There are also several informative knowledge builders, tutorials, newsletters, and daily questions and answers to help you stay on track. Check out myapex for even more educational resources like daily questions and answers and newsletters.

Can one bodybugg armband be used by multiple people?
No, we do not recommend multiple users wearing the same bodybugg armband. Each armband is linked to a particular bodybugg online program. Having multiple users wearing the same device simultaneously would negate the accuracy and effectiveness of the overall bodybugg program.

Why is the bodybugg more accurate than a pedometer?
The bodybugg armband is more accurate than a pedometer for calculating calories burned because it is "watching" your body from four different perspectives. A pedometer only measures steps. In addition to measuring motion and steps, the armband is able to see how much you are sweating, your skin temperature and the rate at which heat is being dissipated from your body. These additional physiological parameters give the bodybugg system a more complete picture of what your body is doing and its level of exertion, all of which means a much more accurate estimation of your calories burned.

Does the bodybugg armband measure my heart rate?
Not at this time. While heart rate information can be useful, it is not necessary to accurately measure total calorie burn. In fact, there are many factors, such as prescription drugs, cardiovascular disease and abnormalities, which can affect heart rate, making it more difficult to obtain an accurate overall assessment of calories burned.

Does the bodybugg strap come in any other colors?
The bodybugg armband is now available in Zebra, Camo, Blue, Chrome and Pink.

Can I get the bodybugg armband wet?
The bodybugg armband should be protected from water and should be removed before showering, bathing or swimming. The armband should not be worn in saunas or steam rooms.

Does the bodybugg armband track what I eat?
No, the armband itself tracks the calories you burn, but not the calories you eat. Your calories consumed are calculated by the bodybugg web interface based on your weekly body mass change. To better track your calorie input, the program also offers an easy-to-use food log so you can monitor the calories you eat throughout the day.

How do I wear the bodybugg armband?
The bodybugg armband is designed to be worn on the back of the upper arm (the tricep), against the skin and under your clothes.

  • The bodybugg (version 3) armband and the bodybuggSP armband is worn on the left upper arm
  • The gray (V2) armband is worn on the right upper arm
  • Make sure that your upper arm is clean and dry. You should not wear any lotion or body oil that touches the bodybugg armband.
  • Strap the bodybugg armband onto the back of your upper arm with the logo facing up.
  • Adjust the strap so that it fits on your arm comfortably, and secure the pull-tab. Flex the arm a few times to make sure that the strap is neither too tight nor too loose. It should be snug, but comfortable.
  • Be careful not to over-tighten the bodybugg armband. If you feel constricted or loss of circulation, loosen the strap and re-fasten it to a more comfortable setting.

What is the proper way to clean the bodybugg armband?
Gently wipe the side of the armband touching the skin with a soft cloth or towel moistened with a mild soap and water. Wipe with a clean damp cloth to remove any excess soap remaining. Use a dry, soft cloth or towel to completely dry the armband before wearing. Additionally, your arm should be cleaned and thoroughly dry.

Never use solvents to clean the armband.

To clean the strap/wing assembly: Hand wash with mild soap and warm water, rinse, then air dry. Machine drying may affect the performance and lifespan of the strap.

How do I help ensure a comfortable wearing experience?

  • Always clean and dry the back of the armband, as well as the upper arm, prior to wearing. This will help prevent dirt and moisture from getting trapped between the sensors and skin.
  • Remove the armband for at least one hour for every 24 hours of continuous use. This will allow the skin to breathe, help prevent irritation.
  • Do not use moisturizers or lotions in the area that the armband touches the skin. This may increase irritation over prolonged wearing and affect the performance of the sensors.

Will the digital display work without the armband?
No. The digital display provides a visual output for your armband. It is not a monitor in itself. It will only update and present your armband data when the armband is on your arm and "on-body" (sensing). Note: You can still use the digital display as a time piece when the digital display says "not in sync".

How do I take accurate body fat and weight measurements?
Because your actual food intake is calculated from your daily energy expenditure and weight, your accuracy in input is crucial. The numbers cannot be wrong when input is accurate because they are a function of mass changes (body fat and /or weight) based on the Laws of Thermodynamics (energy).

Weighing on your own:

In order to minimize temporary fluctuations in water weight that may skew true results, you should weigh yourself no more than once a week in the same dress, using the same scale, at the same time of day and preferably (but not necessary) in the morning before eating or drinking.

With your Fit Pro:

same as above if possible or the Fit Pro will set up a consistent measurement schedule.

Anytime you are going in the wrong direction from a weight reduction goal:

Water - occasionally due to uncontrollable circumstances you may have gained some temporary water weight and therefore at that point in time the scale may not represent your body mass change accurately. If you believe you have lost fat or weight and your scale does not confirm it, wait another week before your next weigh-in. Weight gain due to water retention will quickly subside well within a 2-week timeframe and you will receive an accurate accounting of your combined food intake and body weight. Or simply use the body fat measurement as a trend indicator.

LBM (Lean Body Mass) - You may have gained LBM since your last weigh in, off-setting a weight reduction from loss of Body Fat - this is a desirable situation but will soon subside as fat loss will surpass the LBM increase when weight reduction is the primary goal. Therefore simply use the body fat reading as the current trend indicator.

Weight gain goal

More than a quarter to 1lb gain a week may be due to water weight fluctuations. Your average weight gain over the program period will be the accurate assessment of progress and delivery of actual calorie intake.

Can I wear my bodybugg (version 3) armband on other parts of my body like my legs?
No. The algorithm of the armband is designed that it be worn on the upper left arm for black armbands and upper right arm for the gray armbands. Wearing the bodybugg armband on other parts of the body decreases the accuracy of the armband.

How does the armband measure how many calories I burn?
The bodybugg armband is a wearable body monitor developed by BodyMedia Inc. containing multiple sensors that measure motion, body heat and skin temperature and conductivity. A proprietary algorithm "crunches" the collected information and the user's personal body parameters to deliver accurate information on activity, steps and calorie burn.

How do I log my food?
Click on the Log food button located in the left hand column. You'll have the option to log your food starting from the last time you logged food, breakfast of the current day, or breakfast of the day before. It's up to you when and how much you want to log your food as the system will work without you having to do it. However, to gain a deeper understanding of what and how much you eat, it is recommended, at least for the first few weeks of the program.

How can I edit my food log?
To view and edit your previous meal log, you may do the following steps:

  1. Log on to www.bodybugg.com
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Go to your web program, click "Specific Day", and then select the date you wish to edit your food log from.
  4. Select the "Nutrition" tab below the four main buttons (Calories Burned, Calories Consumed, Body Measurements, Share My Results).
  5. Click "Edit" beside the meal you wish to modify.
  6. Click "Save Changes".

Does the bodybugg show my calories burned even if I am not wearing it?
Yes. The bodybugg system takes account of not only the calories that you burn while wearing the armband but also for the time that you are not wearing it. This is because the bodybugg device knows that every minute of everyday we are burning calories and this need to be taken account of for a fuller calculation of one's calories burned. In instances that you did not wear the armband equal to or exceeding 30 mins, you will be prompted to manually input the activities that you performed when you upload your data and the system will calculate the calories that you burned for those activities.

What is the difference between actual calories consumed and logged calories consumed?
Actual calories consumed is the number of calories you actually ate derived from how many calories you burned and your body mass change (weight and body fat) over time. Because logging your food can be onerous and studies have shown that people often underestimate what they eat by as much as 15-30%, this automated way to determine what you ate is a revolutionary feature. It takes the guesswork and human error out of the equation, making calorie counting easy and accurate.
Logged calories consumed is the number of calories you logged based on what you ate.

What is Calorie Balance?
Your calorie balance is the difference between total calories burned and total actual calories consumed. Your balance will be expressed in either a deficit or surplus. If you burned more calories than you consumed, then your balance will be a calorie deficit. If you consumed more calories than you burned then your balance will be a calorie surplus. To lose weight you need to maintain a calorie deficit. Your calorie balance will show you if you have done this.

How do I edit an incorrect meal?

  • Go to My Resources Tab
  • Click the Custom food button
  • Click on the name of the food that you want to edit
  • Update the ingredients
  • Click save recipe

How do I edit an incorrect body measurement?
Only Fit Pros are capable of editing reported body measurements. If you are a Fit Pro, you may edit an incorrect body measurement by going to "My Info > Measurements" and clicking on a specific line item.

How do I edit my activity?
To edit your reported physical activity, click on the "Calories Burned" button in the lower left sidebar of the "My Results" tab. Select the date of the activity that you would like to edit. Click on the "Edit Activity Log" button above the graph. If there is any remaining "off-body" time that has not been accounted for, you may report it here.

My armband is not responding. It seems to be off, and I cannot get it to come back on.
Press the status button. If the battery or memory lights are flashing red, either the battery needs to be replaced or charged or the memory is full. If after pressing the status button you still receive no feedback (no lights or sound), try replacing (V2) or charging (version 3) the battery, it may have drained while you were not wearing the armband. If after replacing or charging the battery you still do not receive feedback, please contact Technical Support at 866-314-9423 or via email at support@bodybugg.com.

Data that I thought was on my armband has been erased.
Your armband may not have turned on. If this is the case, the armband did not collect data, but you will be prompted to manually enter your activities during any detected off-body time the next time you upload your armband. Off-body time occurs only during the non-sleeping hours you've established in your program, and you've had the armband off for at least 30 minutes.

I have a Mac computer with Mac OS v10.6 (Snow Leopard), why am I prompted to install the bodybugg software each and every time I click on the calories burned.

Safari needs to run in 32-bit mode to properly install the armband. Snow Leopard runs Safari in 64-bit mode by default. Opening Safari in 32-bit mode should allow the application to function properly and not prompt for a reinstallation.

To run Safari in 32-bit mode, please do the following:

  1. Quit the Safari web browser.
  2. Open "Finder" Icon.
  3. Go to Applications.
  4. Ctrl+Click "Safari".
  5. Select "Get info" from the popup menu.
  6. There should be a check mark next to "Open in 32-bit Mode".
  7. Re-launch Safari and try to upload your data again.

Why do I see a blank pop up window every time I click on Calories Burned?
When you try to access the calories burned window and you get a blank pop-up, please do the following:

  1. Ensure that you are using the supported browser type: Internet Explorer (6,7,8) or Safari 4 in 32 bit mode.
  2. Please close and reopen the pop-up window and if the result is still the same, close and reopen your browser.
  3. Ensure that the internet settings are correct:

    - Tools -> Popup Blocker (make sure Popup Blocker does NOT have a check)
    - Tools -> Manage Add-ons (all items with "Sun Microsystems" on the second column should be enabled)
  4. Ensure that you only have one updated version of Java installed (we recommend Java 6 Update 16):

    - go to http://www.java.com and click on 'Do I have java?' link to check the version of Java that is installed in your computer. We recommend that you use Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6 Update 16 because this version has no known issues with supported browsers.

    - FOR PC: If java is not installed, or if you are using an older version of Java than what we recommend, you can download Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6 Update 16. Just go to http://www.java.com then click on free java download button.

-Note that if you have Java 6 Update 16 installed on your PC already, you may need to uninstall it first, and reinstall it again. To uninstall, please go to Start, open Control Panel, and please switch to Classic View. Then kindly double-click Add/Remove programs (for XP. For Vista, click Programs and Features), browse through the list and look for Java, highlight and then click Remove/Uninstall. You may need to restart your PC after uninstalling.
  5. After installing Java, close all open windows and relaunch your browser.
  6. Login and attempt to upload data again. Java may need time to take effect on your computer, so if you still can't upload data after java installation, you may need to close the pop up window and try again. Continue if the issue is not resolved. You may restart pc as needed.

** Please check the internet settings again after installing Java**

    - Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab (click "Reset" at the bottom)
    - Tools -> Popup Blocker (make sure Popup Blocker does NOT have a check)
    - Tools -> Manage Add-ons (all items with "Sun Microsystems" on the second column should be enabled)
  7. Login and attempt to try uploading data again.
    - FOR MAC: to update Java, you can go to the Apple Menu and click on 'Software Update.'

How do I upload the armband using the Wireless Communicator accessory?

  1. Log in to the bodybugg application with your username and password and select "Calories Burned". If prompted, install the bodybugg software.
  2. Plug the Wireless Communicator (sold as an accessory) into the USB port of your computer using the supplied cable. The light on the communicator will be a solid green when it is ready for use.
  3. Choose "Wireless Communicator" and click the "Upload" button.
  4. Press the button on the armband to wake its radio for wireless communication when prompted by the upload process.

Common reasons why the armband will not upload using the Wireless Communicator:

  • The armband and wireless communicator are out of range (greater than three feet from each other).
  • Wireless interference (wireless routers, cordless phones, cell phones or other wireless equipment operating at the same wireless frequency, 2.4Ghz)
  • A faulty USB port on the computer. Try with a different port.
  • A faulty USB cable. Try a different cable.
  • The presence of third party software that may interfere with the communication between the armband and the wireless communicator. Examples are Hot sync, Active sync, Blackberry desktop, etc.

How do I synchronize a new or replacement armband with the digital display?
Perform the steps below to synchronize your digital display with your armband. Once the armband is "paired" with the digital display, synchronizing should require only a single short press of the armband button when prompted by the digital display.

  1. Register the new or replacement armband to your bodybugg account. If the armband is already registered, perform an upload.
  2. Place the armband on the appropriate arm and verify the armband goes "on body" (touching the skin and turned on). The armband will not synchronize to the digital display unless the armband is "on body".
  3. Hold down all four digital display buttons for five seconds to reboot. Wait for the screen to go blank.
  4. Press and hold the armband button for 5 seconds until you hear the armband acknowledgement. Do not hold the button for more than 10 seconds.
  5. Press the view button on the digital display and follow the on-screen instructions to hold the mode and view buttons.
Common reasons why the armband will lose synchronization with the digital display

  • The armband is not "on body."
  • The armband and digital display are out of range (more than 3 ft) from each other.
  • Wireless interference (wireless routers, cordless phones, cell phones or other wireless equipment operating at the same wireless frequency, 2.4Ghz).
  • The charge on the battery in the armband is low.

What do I do if the battery is not charging?
After performing any of the following, attempt to charge your armband to see if the problem has been corrected.

  • Disable the "hibernation mode" settings on your computer.
  • Charge using a different USB port on your computer.
  • Try a different USB cable.
  • Press the armband button while the armband is unplugged from the computer. Verify the battery light flashes amber or green, then goes out. If the battery light remains solid, press and hold the armband button for a full fifteen seconds. The battery LED should go out. Plug cable into the armband and attempt to charge.

How do I locate the serial number in either version of the armband?
Gray (V2) armband - Open the round battery cap. Remove the AAA battery. The serial number is the 8-digit number found within the battery well.
bodybugg (version 3) and bodybuggSP armband - Remove the armband sensor from the strap/wing assembly. The serial number is the 10 digit number found on the armband sensor label.

What is the proper way to wear the armband?
The armband is designed to be worn on the back of the upper arm (the triceps) with the bodybugg logo towards the shoulder and the sensors touching the skin. Adjust the strap so that it fits on your arm comfortably, and secure the pull-tab. Confirm that the sensors maintain continuous contact with your skin at all times and that the armband does not slide off your arm. Be sure not to secure the strap too tightly.

The black bodybugg armband was designed to be worn on the left arm.
The gray bodybugg armband was designed to be worn on the right arm.

What do I do if the computer will not recognize the armband?
After performing any of the following, attempt to upload your armband to see if the problem has been corrected.

  • Ensure that the USB cable is connected to both the armband and the computer.
  • Connect the USB cable to a different USB port on the computer.
  • Try using a different the USB cable.
  • Check the armband's battery status by pressing the armband button and verifying that the memory and battery lights turn on. If you are using a gray armband, replace the AAA battery. If you are using a black armband, unplug the USB cable and reboot the armband by pressing and holding the armband button for 15 seconds.
  • Check for the presence of third party software on your computer that may interfere with communication with the armband. Examples are Hot sync, Active sync, Blackberry desktop, etc.
  • If the problem is not corrected, contact bodybugg Technical Support at 866-314-9423.

When I press the armband button, the armband does not respond?
Press the armband button again to see if it responds. Press and hold the status button for 15 seconds to reboot. Go into the software and retrieve your data (upload) to re-sync your armband.

My armband is beeping while it is on my arm.

  1. Press the status button. If the battery lights are flashing red or amber, charge batteries according to instructions via the USB cable
  2. Press the status button. If the memory lights are flashing red or amber, go to the website and upload your data.
  3. Reminders that are set in the bodybugg software will also cause the armband to beep.

My armband is not automatically turning on when I slide it on.
If your armband has not turned on within 10 minutes of putting it on, try very lightly moistening the back of your upper arm with water and slide the armband on again. Do not use enough water to form drops on your skin. It be no more than slightly damp. It should turn on within a few minutes. If the problem persists, please contact Technical Support at 866-314-9423.

What should I do if my skin becomes red or irritated?
In most cases the redness or irritation is the result of heat and moisture build up between the armband and skin due to prolonged wearing. Discontinuing use for a few days should allow the affected area to breathe and clear up. If the area does not seem to clear by itself or remains irritated for several days following discontinuation, consult your physician before wearing again. If you are allergic to any of the materials in the armband, consult your physician.

I've noticed a slight difference in the values for calories, activity and steps between my digital display and the bodybugg armband. Is this expected?
The bodybugg armband runs complex statistical algorithms that take the bodybugg armband data and compute your calories. In addition, historical data personalizes this calculation even further. If you have a digital display you will have seen up to the minute calorie values displayed. The bodybugg armband contains a miniaturized set of algorithms that can calculate calories and send them directly to the digital display every minute. The full power of the web server is required for the most complete analysis of your bodybugg armband data, and small differences can occur in the calories between the digital display and the bodybugg armband. Wearing the bodybugg armband UPSIDE DOWN is the leading cause of the digital display/bodybugg armband mismatch. If you wear the bodybugg armband on the left arm the 'right way up,'' with the logo toward your shoulder and the lights toward your elbow, the daily calories shown on the digital display and the bodybugg armband will match within 5%, usually within 1%.

How do I set my bodybugg armband to beep for reminders?
The bodybugg armband beeps when you have reminders set in the bodybugg web app.

I just wore my bodybugg armband today at 8am but it is already showing that I have burned 900 calories already? How can this be?
This is because the bodybugg armband resets every midnight and it starts gathering data for the next day. The data that you see there at the moment that you wore the bodybugg is your calories burned from midnight up to the time that you wore the bodybugg.

How would I know if my bodybugg is turned on or off?
To verify that the bodybugg armband is on, press the button on the armband. For (version 3) and bodybuggSP armbands, it should make an ascending tone and 2 lights for both the battery and memory. If you do not get the ascending tone, it means the bodybugg is turned off.
V2 armbands, you should get the ascending tone and also the vibration. If you do not get the vibration from the armband and just the ascending tone, it means the armband is off. Before doing any activity, make sure the armband is on to make sure it collects your data.

How do I turn my bodybugg armband on or off? Does it have a switch button?
The bodybugg armband does not have a switch button to either turn it on or off. The bodybugg automatically turns on when it detects that it is in contact with your skin and automatically turns off when it detects that it is off your skin.

How do I know the armband is working?
Simply press the status button. Both the memory and battery button will turn green for a few seconds. If "on-body", the armband will make a friendly chirp.

Can I use the Program if I have dial-up?
Yes. The Program can be accessed using dial-up although it should be noted that interactivities may be drastically slower than with high speed internet connection.

If I am using a PC with a dial up connection, how long will it take to install all the necessary software?
Depending on which programs you need to install, it could take up to 15 minutes.

Will Pop-up Blockers affect the Program?
Yes. Certain pop-up blockers (For Example AOL pop-up blocker) must be disabled to allow for Updating Data, Logging Food, etc.

When the USB Drivers are installing I get an Add New Hardware Wizard. What is this and what should I do?
It is a program necessary to properly install the USB Drivers onto your PC. Click next through the wizard until complete. If you are an XP user, the wizard will appear twice for the armband, and twice for the wireless communicator.

Does the bodybugg package contain cd installer?
No. The bodybugg package does not have any CD installer. All the necessary software will be downloaded online.

I am getting "could not write .init file command" when uploading. How do I fix this?
This happens when you plug in the bodybugg armband to the computer and it is still on body. Reboot the armband first and upload afterwards.

To reboot (version 3) and bodybuggSP armbands:

  1. Make sure bodybugg armband is unplugged from the computer and off your arm.
  2. Press and hold the button on the bodybugg for 20 secs
To reboot a V2 bodybugg:

Can I just use my Digital Display and no longer subscribe online?
No. While the Digital Display serves as a real time display of the data from the armband, it does not replace the bodybugg web application itself. The armband needs the application for basically two reasons: 1. to unload the data from the armband and transfer it to the server(this is required because the bodybugg armband will only hold up to 14 days worth of data) and,2. to reconfigure the armband with the account's information such as the body measurements, goals and targets, as well as the time zone (in this sense, the bodybugg armband needs to be refreshed with the settings of the account as often as possible, at the very least once a week). The Digital Display will not sync with the armband if the bodybugg armband is memory full and not configured with the account's setting.

The time in my Digital Display watch is off no matter how I adjust it. How do I change the time?
The time in your Digital Display reflects the time zone set in the bodybugg program. If your Digital Display is not synced to the bodybugg, you can manually adjust the time in the digital display. However if it is synced, it will always show the time in your web application. To change the time zone in the web application:

  1. Log on to http://www.bodybugg.com and enter your username and password.
  2. On the web program, click the "My Info" tab.
  3. Click the "Body Parameters" button.
  4. Select the appropriate time zone from the Time Zone section at the lower part of the page.
  5. Click "Save Changes".
  6. Connect the armband to your computer and upload data. The time zone change will take effect once upload is completed.

Can I make my Digital Display time in 24-hour format?
No. As of the moment, Digital Display only shows 12-hour format.

How do I turn on/off the tone of my Digital Display
Press and hold the light button until the screen shows "beep on" or "beep off"

How do I sync my V2 or (version 3) bodybugg armband and Digital Display?
To synchronize your Digital Display to your V2 or (version 3) armband, please do the following:

  1. Upload data from your armband at http://www.bodybugg.com
  2. Put on your armband, wait for it to turn on (for a (version 3), it will make a beeping sound; for a V2, it will make a beeping sound and will vibrate)
  3. Make sure that the Digital Display is within three feet from the armband.
  4. Reboot the Digital Display by pressing all four buttons on the watchface simultaneously for five seconds. Once the buttons are released, the device should make a long beep followed by a message on the screen that shows "DD 121".
  5. Press the "Mode" and "View" buttons at the same time. The device should display, "HELLO", then "PRESS ARMBAND BUTTON TO SYNC".
  6. Press the armband button for five seconds. If successful, the device should display, "WELCOME TO BODYBUGG" followed by your name.
As a reminder, other wireless devices, such as cordless phones and wireless Internet routers, may interfere with the Digital Display.

I am having problems syncing my bodybugg (version 3) or V2 armband with my Digital Display.
If synchronization failed, the Digital Display will show either of the two messages: "armband not found" or "armband not setup":

  1. If Digital Display shows "armband not found" - replace battery of Digital Display. This is a possible indication of low battery on Digital Display. If problem persists please call Technical Support at 866-314-9423 or send an email to support@bodybugg.com
  2. If Digital Display shows "armband not setup" - please call Technical Support at 866-314-9423 or send an email to support@bodybugg.com

Prop 65 Frequently Asked Questions

The following frequently asked questions contain information about Prop 65. Please ensure to check back for the most updated information.

Why does my supplement dietary powder or protein drink contain a warning that this product "contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harms"?
California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65) requires businesses to warn California consumers if a product may expose the consumer to a chemical that the State of California has determined can cause cancer or reproductive harm, including lead and mercury. Proposition 65 does not ban any product; it merely requires warnings. Proposition 65 only applies in California, but it covers all products distributed in California.

Proposition 65 requires the Governor of California to publish, at least annually, a list of all chemicals known to the State to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. There currently are over 800 chemicals included on this list, many of which-including lead and mercury-are found naturally in many products, including many foods.

This product contains trace amounts of lead (less than 2 parts per billion per recommended daily serving), [for Chocolate Supreme only] and mercury (less than 1 part per billion per recommended daily serving).

Does the warning mean that this product is unsafe for human consumption?
No. In fact, the webpage for California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, the California agency charged with assessing the chemicals included in the Governor's Proposition 65 list, expressly provides: "The fact that a product bears a Proposition 65 warning does not mean by itself that the product is unsafe." (http://oehha.ca.gov/prop65/p65faq.html.) Organizations such as the United States Food and Drug Administrative (the FDA) and the California Department of Public Health are responsible for recalling food and dietary supplements found to be unsafe for human consumption.

In addition, the reportable limits under Proposition 65 are much more stringent than the safety limits under federal laws. California's Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings at levels that the FDA or other organizations deem safe for consumption. One reason for this discrepancy is that, in the case of a reproductive toxin (which includes lead and mercury), Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide a warning for trace amounts of toxins in their products, unless the business can demonstrate that an exposure to the toxin at 1000 times the level included in the product will result in no observable effect (NOEL). In other words, the NOEL sets a warning requirement for reproductive toxins at the actual no observable effective, divided by 1,000 to further ensure safety.

Why does the product contain lead?
Lead is found in many naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, including calcium. As a result, while 24 Hour Fitness is committed to ensuring that its manufacturers follow the best available manufacturing policies and techniques, it still cannot remove all naturally occurring impurities from its products. These naturally occurring impurities include lead.

What are some examples of maximum allowable exposures to lead?
Under Proposition 65, the NOEL or maximum allowable daily levels (MADLs) for lead without providing a warning is 0.5 parts per billion (ppm). The FDA has set a safe/tolerable exposure limit for children 0 to 6 years of age at 6 ppm. This safe/tolerable exposure limit increases to 75 ppm for adult women. The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has established a maximum daily exposure to lead in dietary supplements at 10 ppm*. This product complies with all FDA and USP safety standards.

What are some examples of maximum allowable exposures to mercury?
Under Proposition 65, the NOEL or MADLs for mercury without providing a warning is 0.3 parts per billion (ppm). The FDA has set an action level for mercury in foods at 1 ppm**. The USP has established a maximum daily exposure to lead in dietary supplements at 15 ppm. This product complies with all FDA and USP safety standards.

* The USP is a non-governmental, official public standards establisher, with authority for prescription and over-the-counter medicines and other healthcare products manufactured or sold in the United States. USP also sets widely recognized standards for food ingredients and dietary supplements. USP's standards are recognized and used in more than 130 countries around the globe. These standards have helped to ensure public health throughout the world for close to 200 years.

** The FDA's action level for mercury does not distinguish between mercury and methylmercury, which is a more toxic form of mercury.
